The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has sold the broadcast rights to the Copa do Brasil, the country's premier knockout cup, to Globo, Amazon and ESPN. The four-season deal runs from 2027 to 2030 and is worth more than R$ 4 billion, according to the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo. The agreement was confirmed on Thursday (Sept. 10), and CBF president Samir Xaud called it a record for Brazilian football.

What Globo gets

According to ge, Globo's sports news outlet, the network's platforms will carry up to 88 matches per year across the Copa do Brasil and the Supercopa do Brasil, including 38 games from the final rounds, many of them exclusive. Free-to-air TV Globo keeps 14 match days per season, while sportv, Premiere and Ge TV broadcast from the first round and air highlights of every match. The package also covers the Supercopa do Brasil from 2028 to 2031, the season opener played between the Brasileirão champion and the previous year's cup winner.

For viewers, the most visible change comes early in the bracket: because the pay-TV and streaming channels enter at the first phase, matches involving small clubs from distant states get broadcast, while free-to-air television concentrates on the decisive rounds.

A direct deal, no middlemen

"It is the biggest rights deal in the history of Brazilian football. We decided to negotiate directly with the biggest players in the market, without intermediaries. It was gratifying to see that everyone recognized this new moment the CBF is living," Xaud told ge.

One detail remains open. ge reported that, beyond Globo's channels, the 2027 to 2030 editions of the cup will stream on Amazon and on one more platform the CBF has yet to announce. Folha de S.Paulo reported that the third platform is ESPN.

On the network's side, sports rights director Fernando Manuel Pinto said the renewal "reaffirms our confidence in the strength of Brazilian football". Sports director Renato Ribeiro noted that the cup "connects every corner of the country", running through all five regions.

Globo's current contract for the competition expires at the end of this season. The renewal keeps the country's biggest knockout tournament on the network through 2030.
