The Democracia Cristã (DC) party has nominated 39-year-old lawyer Clariana Zacarkim Barão as its candidate for the presidency of Brazil in the 2026 elections. The decision ends a streak of six consecutive presidential bids by José Maria Eymael, the party's founder and longtime leader, as reported by newspaper Folha de S.Paulo.

This marks the first time that Barão is running for public office. She currently serves as the party's state president in Mato Grosso. Her running mate will be fellow lawyer Fabiana Torquato, forming an all-female ticket. Eymael, a former federal deputy between 1986 and 1995 and a member of the assembly that drafted Brazil's 1988 Constitution, chose to step back from frontline campaign duties.

Speaking at the party convention, the candidate addressed the transition:

"I do not feel intimidated by the weight of the office. I am an honorable woman of firm principles, who values family and does not negotiate with dishonesty."

In documents submitted to Brazil's electoral authorities, Barão declared assets totaling 1.8 million reais (approximately 346,000 dollars). According to records from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), 74 percent of her declared net worth consists of a property valued at 979,500 reais and a vehicle worth 376,000 reais.

The ticket will run under ballot number 27 among 13 registered presidential candidates, according to TSE records. The first round of voting is scheduled for October 4, with candidate registrations still pending final validation by electoral judges.
