Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro and a candidate for president, refused on Friday (28) to explain where the money given by former banker Daniel Vorcaro, of Banco Master, went in the film Dark Horse, a biography of his father. In an interview on TV Globo, after the Jornal Nacional newscast, the senator called his relationship with Vorcaro private and said he saw nothing irregular in the case.
"There is absolutely nothing wrong with a son seeking private financing for a film about his own father", he said, according to Folha de S.Paulo. "Once again: all the sponsorship that went into the film was used in the film. It was a good-faith sponsorship. There is nothing irregular."
Flávio reduced the film's accounting to a private audit hired by the production company itself. He said "everything has already come out" and called the case a "closed book". He refused to show the contract with Master, the expense spreadsheet and the list of other investors. According to a G1 report, the auditor hired by the producer had no access to the American fund that received Vorcaro's money and presented no invoices, no transfer receipts and no trace of the path taken by R$ 75 million (about US$ 14 million).
Message to Vorcaro and a R$ 61 million request
In May, the website The Intercept Brasil revealed messages and audios in which the senator asks Vorcaro for R$ 61 million to bankroll the film. In the interview, Flávio did not explain what he meant when he wrote to the banker "I am and will always be with you". "The only relationship I had with him was about this film, nothing else", he said, according to G1. "I did not want that work of art to be lost. It was a dream coming true."
Asked about the visit he paid Vorcaro in late 2025, when the banker was already jailed and wearing an ankle monitor, the candidate gave no direct answer and aimed his criticism at President Lula (PT). "What is not appropriate is a president of the Republic receiving a banker in a secret meeting, promising to help him solve his bank's problem. The one who owes explanations is Lula", he said. According to Folha, Flávio also said he had defended creating a CPI, a congressional inquiry, into Master so that the government's former leader in the Senate, Jaques Wagner (PT), would have to explain himself.
The senator again attacked his father's conviction by the Supreme Court and Brazil's electronic voting system. According to G1, he did not answer whether he will respect the election result in case of defeat. "He was tried by his enemies", he said of Jair Bolsonaro, sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in prison for attempting a coup d'etat.
The Master case remains under investigation. Vorcaro is in jail and is being investigated by the Federal Police for money laundering, corruption and criminal organization, among other crimes. Flávio's interview was the fifth in the Jornal Nacional series with presidential candidates, which ends on Saturday (29) with Augusto Cury. The first round of the election is scheduled for October 4.
