The government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of the Workers' Party (PT) is rated as bad or very bad by 43% of Brazilians, an Ipsos-Ipec survey released on Wednesday showed. Another 33% call it excellent or good, and 23% call it merely fair. The poll, published by Globo's news site G1, was conducted from September 9 to 13 and has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.

The negative rating is the highest since June 2025, G1 reported. In June this year it stood at 38%. The positive rating edged up from 32% to 33%, while the share calling the government fair fell from 28% to 23%. UOL, Band and SpaceMoney carried the same figures.

Approval and trust

On how Lula runs the country, 53% disapprove and 42% approve. In June, disapproval was 50% and approval 44%. Trust in the president also slipped: 57% say they do not trust Lula, and 40% say they do.

For 45% of respondents, the government has been worse than they expected, up from 42% in the previous round. Another 28% say it matches expectations, and 24% call it better than expected.

Economy and the election

Views on the economy worsened. Some 45% say the country's economic situation is worse than six months ago, against 41% in June. Expectations for the coming months improved, however: 42% expect an improvement over the next six months, up from 36%, while 25% expect things to get worse, down from 32%.

The poll lands 18 days before the first round of Brazil's presidential election, set for October 4, according to Poder360. Lula is running for reelection, with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro of the Liberal Party (PL) among his main challengers.
