Messages recovered by Brazil's Federal Police from the phone of Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, record a close friendship between the banker and Davi Alcolumbre, who presides over the Senate and Congress (União Brasil party, Amapá). Veja magazine published the exchanges on Thursday (24), and Folha de S.Paulo independently confirmed them. Police found the material on Vorcaro's phone during the investigation into the Master case, which examines suspected money laundering at the bank.
The main exchange is dated February 1, 2025, the day Alcolumbre was elected to a second term as Senate president. Vorcaro congratulated the senator and called him a friend. As published by Veja, the exchange read:
"Congratulations my friend! May your best years come! May God bless you in this endeavor! I wish you much success", Vorcaro wrote. "Hey my love! Thank you for everything, especially for your affection and fraternal friendship! Gratitude! I am your brother. For life", Alcolumbre replied. "And I am yours. Anytime, for anything. I will never forget", Vorcaro wrote back, adding five heart emojis.
According to Veja, the closeness went beyond greetings. The senator turned to the banker for prosaic matters, such as trying to identify a journalist's source, and Vorcaro sought the senator when he needed to "open certain doors". The magazine notes Alcolumbre had at one point denied even knowing the banker.
Blocked inquiries in the Senate
In the Senate, Alcolumbre dismissed calls to create an investigative committee into the Master case. In May, according to Veja, he used procedural maneuvers to stop the commission and said: "This matter cannot be the priority right now". He also ignored an official request about Vorcaro's visits to the Senate and refused to hand the Federal Police the visitor list for the office of Senator Jaques Wagner (Workers' Party, Bahia), who is suspected of receiving bribes, as Veja and GZH report.
Veja adds that investigators linked Amprev, the pension fund for civil servants of Amapá, the state Alcolumbre represents, to one of the banker's schemes. The senator's brother sat on the fund's board, and its president was his former campaign treasurer. Folha also found mentions of Alcolumbre in October 2023 chats in a group named "Macallan", after the whisky, which included Vorcaro, former Communications minister Fábio Faria and others. In conversations about parties, in what Folha describes as a possible reference to the women invited to the gatherings, Faria wrote: "Davi said he has a new dance". Vorcaro replied: "Kkkkkk. Bonde do tigrão", slang for a group of friends.
Folha contacted Alcolumbre's press office on Thursday and received no reply before publication. GZH reports the Senate president has yet to comment on the messages. Requests for an inquiry remain stalled in the chamber, and the material extracted by the Federal Police remains under analysis in the Master case investigation.
