Senator Sergio Moro (PL), the former judge who led Brazil's Operation Car Wash corruption investigations, leads the race for governor of Paraná with 37% of voting intentions, according to the first Quaest poll commissioned by RPC, TV Globo's affiliate in the southern state, released on Monday, August 24. Requião Filho (PDT) comes second with 21%, followed by Sandro Alex (PSD) with 15%. According to InfoMoney, the two are statistically tied once the three-point margin of error is taken into account.
Luiz França (Missão) and Tayná Miessa (Unidade Popular) have 1% each, while Alexandre Salomão (Mobiliza), Adriano Funileiro (PCO) and Samuel de Mattos (PSTU) scored zero. Undecided voters add up to 18%, and 7% say they will cast a blank or null ballot or will not vote. In the spontaneous survey, in which no names are read to voters, Moro has 13%, Requião Filho 7% and Sandro Alex 4%, with 73% undecided. According to G1, 56% of respondents say their choice is final, while 44% say they may still change their vote before the October 4 election.
Runoff scenarios
Moro wins both runoff matchups tested by Quaest. He beats Requião Filho by 51% to 27% and Sandro Alex by 48% to 19%, a scenario in which undecided voters reach 22%. In a race without the PL senator, Requião Filho would defeat Sandro Alex by 37% to 24%. Under Brazilian rules, a runoff takes place if no candidate wins a majority of valid votes in the first round.
Rejection rates and the incumbent
Requião Filho, son of former governor Roberto Requião, has the highest rejection rate in the race: 44% of voters say they know him and would never vote for him. Moro records a 33% rejection rate and a 54% potential vote. Sandro Alex, a former mayor of Ponta Grossa, is the least known of the three: 62% of respondents say they do not know him, and his rejection rate is 16%.
The poll also measured the popularity of Governor Ratinho Junior (PSD): 79% approve of the state administration, 14% disapprove, and 65% say he deserves to elect a successor. Asked about the profile they want in the next governor, 38% prefer an ally of presidential hopeful Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro; 35% prefer an ally of President Lula, and 24% want an independent governor.
Quaest interviewed 804 voters aged 16 and over (voting is voluntary from age 16 in Brazil) between August 20 and 23, with a 95% confidence level. The poll was registered with the electoral court under number PR-05388/2026. The institute also measured the race for Paraná's two Senate seats: according to InfoMoney, Alexandre Curi (Republicanos) leads with 15% of total votes, followed by Gleisi Hoffmann (PT), with 11%.
