Messages exchanged by Daniel Vorcaro, the former banker behind Banco Master, indicate that in December 2024 he asked the bank's then legal director to hand "a case or legal opinion" to Enrique Lewandowski, son of retired Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Ricardo Lewandowski. The goal, according to Folha de S.Paulo, was to justify the bank's contract with the young lawyer's firm. The conversations come from a Federal Police extraction of Vorcaro's phone and were obtained by the newspaper, which published them on Monday (21).
The dialogue
The first exchange on the subject came at 9 p.m. on December 9, 2024. Vorcaro wrote to Luiz Rennó, then Master's legal director: "preciso. ajuda sua (sic)" (I need it. Your help). He then forwarded Enrique's contact. Rennó replied: "Claro! Aqui o que está pegando? Chamar? Posso?" (Sure! What's going on here? Call him? May I?). Vorcaro then detailed the instruction, in free translation:
"Calm down. We have a contract. He has to be called urgently. At the bank. You introduce yourself. Say the director changed. Apologize for the lost contact. And give him some case or legal opinion to do."
Rennó confirmed the orders: "Já havíamos no passado informado! Mas irei chamar e alinhar" (We had informed him in the past! But I will call him and align things). Vorcaro insisted: "Tem que chamar ele no banco. Fazer presencial. E já pedir algo" (He has to be called at the bank. In person. And ask him for something right away). Minutes later, the legal director answered: "Amigo, relaxa! Resolvido amanhã. Vc precisa de algo específico?" (Friend, relax! Solved tomorrow. Do you need something specific?).
At the time of the messages, Ricardo Lewandowski was running the Justice Ministry in President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's government, a post he left in January this year. Between his retirement from the Supreme Court in April 2023 and joining the government in February 2024, he worked for Master as a lawyer, Folha reports.
The contract
The contract between Master and Lewandowski Advocacia began in August 2023 as an "institutional consultancy" by Ricardo Lewandowski himself. According to columnist Malu Gaspar of O Globo, citing a report by the outlet Metrópoles, it paid 250,000 reais a month and brought the Lewandowskis 6.5 million reais between August 2023 and August 2025. When the elder Lewandowski took office as justice minister, the consultancy passed to his son, a specialist in tax matters. In the following 21 months, the firm billed another 5 million reais from the bank.
In a statement to the report, Enrique's firm said it signed with Banco Master "a legal consulting contract in August 2023, valid until August 2025, when the services were terminated." The firm said that from 2024 the consultancy focused on tax matters and that the lawyer's contacts took place "with the bank's legal department." In January, according to O Globo, the firm had said no legal opinions were drafted and no specific cases were defended for the bank.
Payments stopped in September 2025, when Brazil's Central Bank vetoed the purchase of Master by the state-owned BRB, O Globo reported. The newly revealed messages are part of the material taken from Vorcaro's phone in the Federal Police inquiry into the Master case, which remains open.
