Brazil's Liberal Party (PL) transferred R$ 31 million (about $5.5 million) from its affiliated party foundation to support electoral campaigns across the country. The financial transfers appeared in official accounting filings submitted to election authorities and are currently under technical review by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), according to reporting by UOL Notícias and VEJA.

The funds were channeled from the party's foundation to federal and state candidates. Under Brazilian electoral law, partisan research and educational foundations must use their public allocations exclusively for political education, policy research, and leadership training. Using these resources to cover direct campaign expenses is strictly restricted under the Political Parties Act.

Technical auditors at the TSE are evaluating whether the transactions complied with electoral accounting resolutions. Investigators are examining whether the foundation transfers served as an indirect mechanism to bypass standard spending limits and distribution rules for the public Campaign Financing Fund. If regulators identify violations, the court can reject the accounting entries and order the full reimbursement of the funds.

PL leadership representatives maintain that the payments funded legitimate candidate training seminars and political education programs held ahead of the elections. Party officials stated that all disbursements are backed by receipts and contracts that comply with existing campaign finance regulations.

The TSE technical accounts audit division is currently finalizing its formal report on the transactions. The court's justices will schedule a definitive vote on the matter once the technical audit concludes, prior to the final certification of election results.
